The Merchant's House (Marlborough) Trust

The House of Thomas Bayly was built following the Great Fire of Marlborough in 1653. Over the years 1653-1700 a fine timber and brick building was constructed, its interior panelled, brilliant with wall paintings and with a commanding oak staircase. A substantial amount of this fabric survives and hidden painted decoration is still being revealed.

The Merchants House Trust and Henry's have been working together to bring it out of the 17th century and it to the 21th century

The Merchant's House Shop

The Merchant's House shop was originally set up in the front room of the house to raise funds for the restoration of the building. Over the years it has become a larger enterprise spreading into the "back room" previously called the Exhibition room.

Marlborough Museum

In 2017 the Trust received a very generous donation that allowed this project to get off the ground. The Trust then matched the costs going forward to create the Marlborough Museum.
